PETRONAS Canada today announced that its President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Fitzgerald will be retiring from his position and stepping down as a Director of the company on September 30, 2025. Mark has led PETRONAS Canada since October 2024 following a three-year placement in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he served as Vice President International Assets for PETRONAS. He previously served as President & CEO of PETRONAS Canada from 2016 to 2022 – a time marked by significant growth and strategic evolution for the company.
“It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience contributing to responsible Canadian energy development alongside the talented team at PETRONAS Canada,” says Mark Fitzgerald. “As I step into a new chapter where I’ll focus more of my time on family and giving back to the community, I’ll leave knowing PETRONAS Canada is in capable hands, ready to seize new opportunities and continue shaping a sustainable energy future.”

The company has appointed Hafiz Zubir as incoming President & CEO, effective October 1. Hafiz has over 25 years of onshore and offshore oil and gas operations experience with PETRONAS, and brings a strong commitment to safety, innovation and operational excellence. Hafiz joined PETRONAS Canada earlier in 2025 as Chief Operating Officer and will now lead the company into its next chapter of strategic growth.
PETRONAS Canada today also announced the appointment of Robert Peabody, Evan Hazell and Véronique Giry as Independent Board Members, effective September 1, 2025.
These appointments reflect PETRONAS’ ongoing commitment to strong governance and growth in Canada.
Don Archibald and Chris Seasons retired from the PETRONAS Canada Board, effective August 31, after serving as directors for 21 and 8 years, respectively. “We thank Don and Chris for their leadership and commitment, which have been instrumental in shaping PETRONAS Canada’s direction and growth. Their guidance and insight have helped position the company to continue adding value across the energy value chain and to supply Canadian natural gas to global markets.” adds Redhani.
